We are a proud to use the Dexis digital x-ray system. Digital x-rays offer the advantage of an 80 percent reduction in radiation. They also eliminate the need for film or processing chemicals and produce an instantaneous image with the ability to use color contrast in the image. Many patients comment that the whole process of taking x-rays is now more comfortable and much faster.
We use a miniature video camera called an intra-oral camera to take a close-up picture of the teeth. This allows you to actually see the inside of your mouth and any problems you have with your teeth. Our Athens, GA patients love how this camera makes them an active participant in their dental recommendations.
One of our favorite pieces of technology as an Athens, GA dentist is our soft tissue laser. We use this tool in a variety of ways:
1) Treating Cold Sores. The laser kills the cold sore virus. If caught in the early stages it will likely prevent the outbreak of an ulcer and potentially hinder reoccurring outbreaks in the affected areas.
2) Laser Bacterial Reduction. The laser reduces or eliminates the cross contamination of bacterial infection from one area of your mouth to another.
3) Other Laser Treatments. Surgical contouring of the gums to enhance the appearance of your smile. General contouring of tissue during crown preparation.

An oral health examination is conducted annually on all hygiene patients to screen for various oral diseases, including oral cancer. We can do an even better job of screening now because we have recently invested in a new screening device call the Velscope. This device helps us screen for a wide variety of things, including inflammation, infections, and even cancerous and precancerous tissue. This service is free of charge to the patient.
Nitrous oxide, also referred to as laughing gas, is available for patients that are anxious about their dental procedures. Dr. Henson will evaluate you to determine if you are a candidate for nitrous.
Inhaling the gas provides an anesthetic and analgesic effect to calm you. After your procedure you will be able to drive and function normally.
Oral Conscious Sedation
Great for patients who want to accomplish many dental procedures in one day or for an anxious patient's comfort.

DentalVibe is an instrument designed to alleviate intra-oral injection pain. It delivers soothing pulsed, percussive micro-oscillations to the site where an injection is being administered. This technology gently stimulates the sensory receptors at the injection site and blocks the pain of injections.
